Arthur Masuaku is enjoying the intensity and competitiveness of England’s top flight.

The French defender has impressed on his opening three West Ham United appearances at Chelsea and Manchester City and at home to AFC Bournemouth, showing commitment, athleticism and registering his maiden assist at the Etihad Stadium.

After winning his maiden home game and twice tasting defeat on the road, the summer signing from Olympiacos expects Slaven Bilic’s to return to winning ways against Watford when a number of regulars return from injury after the international break.

“It hasn’t been an easy start to the season going to Chelsea and Manchester City and we are disappointed not to have qualified for the next round of the Europa League too,” said the No26. “We will now focus all of our concentration on the league and the cup and hope to do well in these.

“We have quite a few players out injured at the moment, but I think we still need to be able to perform without them. It is always going to be more difficult without them though.

“Our objectives remain the same, we go out in every game to win. We will recover during the international break and we will do our best to win our next match.”

The former Valenciennes player won back-to-back Greek Super League titles in his two seasons with Olympiacos, where he lost just five league matches in two seasons, and was delighted when West Ham moved to bring him to east London.

Having lost out to two of the Premier League’s title favourites in his first three appearances, Masuaku could be forgiven for questioning his decision, but instead he is relishing the opportunity to test himself against the best.

“I feel great to be playing in the Premier League and to have started well. It has always been one of my goals in football to play in this league. Now I am here, I am working hard and giving my all so that I can play in as many games as possible.

“The intensity of games is different in the Premier League. The intensity of games is incredible, we got back to 2-1 against City and I thought we could have got the equaliser. Unfortunately, we lost 3-1 after a late goal.

“It is this type of football that I like and it is a pleasure for me to be playing each weekend in games like this.”
